Hello Card - Gray CAS Challenge

CAS-ual Fridays: Gray Challenge

Hello Card - Gray CAS Challenge

Hi everyone!

Just a quick card today to play along with CAS-ual Fridays “Shades of Gray” challenge. The challenge? Create a card with at least 2 shades of gray. Easy enough with Lawn Fawn’s Let’s Polka papers! Looking at this photo, I wish I’d shot at a slightly different angle; we’re looking a tad crooked here! Eeek!

Anyway, I love no stamp cards for Clean & Simple looks, don’t you? Here, we have two dies and three types of paper (in addition to White cardstock). The two purple shades are from Studio Calico’s Lemon Lush collection, which may be my favorite collection since BasicGrey’s Lauderdale. As my CK friends can attest: I love me some Lauderdale. Ha! I’m all about the wacky color combinations!

Hope you’re all having a fantastic day!

Mixed Media Scrapbooking

CK Mixed Media Scrapbooking

I love playing with scrapbooking supplies. Love. It. I love getting messy with ink and seeing how new materials look on my layouts. And that’s why this special issue from Creating Keepsakesis one of the coolest ever! Mixed Media Scrapbooking has so many crazy and amazing ideas that you wouldn’t necessarily think to ever try on a layout.

Mixed Media Scrapbooking

¬†For this issue, I got to make a mini album using metal and art mediums. What a blast! Seriously, stamping into candlewax on a page? Who knew? And really thin wire makes a cool accent–I used it to create a shadow for my album’s title.

You’ll have to pick up a copy of this amazing new issue to see the rest of the album. {Grins} It’s definitely worth having in your scrapbooking resource library. No matter your scrapbooking style, you’ll find a way to start working new materials into your scrapbooking. In fact, I was feeling inspired by the chapter on Fabric and Sewing, and I whipped up a Clean and Simple layout with a touch of fabric from my stash.

Self Portrait recipe: July 2012 Studio Calico kit; Fabric: Westminster Fibers.

Want to win a copy of Mixed Media Scrapbooking of your own? Just leave a comment here, telling me about a project in your scrapbooking queue that you’d want to try a new medium on. (You know, just to get you brainstorming!) On or around July 23rd, I’ll pick a winner at random, and post her name here on my blog as well as send her an e-mail. After that, you have one week to respond to claim your prize, or I’ll draw another name.

You’ll find more inspiration and more chances to win at the blogs of these CK friends!

March/April 2012 CK + Giveaway!

As seen in the March/April 2012 issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine. Copyright Creative Crafts Group. Posted with prior permission from the publisher.

Have you seen the March/April 2012 issue of CK yet? Without a doubt, it’s one of my favorite issues ever! And not just because I’ve got three layouts in it. (Three?! Geek out!) This issue’s jam packed with fab ideas for sharing your story and using your stash in innovative ways.

Honestly though, I think this is one of my favorite issues because I had such a great time working on it! Cindy Tobey and I had a blast putting together “Scrapbook Family Style” based on a wild idea I had during one of CK’s issue concept meetings. If I recall, there was a lot of vague hand-gesturing on my part and talking about drawing inspiration from your dad’s plaid shirt to scrapbook his love of movies. (“Noooo, the layout doesn’t need to be about the shirt!”) Ha! That Cindy’s a genius–she got what I meant. The article turned out beautifully! You’ll find it on page 67. And, to get an idea of what a concept meeting involves, turn to page 4 of the issue and take a peek at the “Behind the Scenes” snippet in Jennafer’s Ed Note.

In another wild turn of events, Stacy Cohen was a total super trooper when I sent her scouring LA for glassine to recreate Tim Holtz’s ultra-cool technique for my “Tips & Tricks” column (page 19). Go Stacy!

And then there’s the fun I had creating a layout for Lori’s “Leap Ahead” (page 55) feature. The folks at Sizzix were kind enough to lend me one of their brand new dies to use on my Party Moves layout (featured at the top of this post). It was so hard shipping the die back to them! You have no idea! Don’t those die-cut transparency doilies look cool?

Lastly, I challenged myself to use four different Tattered Angels products on a single layout! Check out my Shopping in Chicago layout, and find out about all the techniques I used by visiting this issues online extras at ck.com. And, because I just couldn’t help myself, I also used my fav Studio Calico chicken wire background stamp that Nicole Harper graciously sent me. But while I totally love that stamp, it’s her note that I’ll always remember:

I laughed so hard, I fell out of my rolly chair and bonked my knee on a stack of boxes!

Win It!
Now for the best part–I get to give away a copy of this fantastic issue to one of my readers! Just leave me a note here, and I’ll select one winner on or around March 26, 2012. And hop on by the blogs of these other CK friends for even more chances to win:

Delish 12x12 Scrapbook Page

Changes + A Layout

Delish 12x12 Scrapbook Page

What a week! As most of you already know, Thursday the second was my last day as an editor at Creating Keepsakes. It was a hard decision. So hard. Anyway, I’ve gone back into software development, which is a huge, huge change. It’s so strange–I’m quickly re-engaging a part of my brain that’s been put into sleep mode since I finished grad school. And it feels so good, you guys. I had no idea it was going to feel this good. Isn’t life funny? I started in software development, started grad school, got the position at Stampin’ Up!, graduated, then took the job at CK. And now, here I am, going back to where I started (but with an awesome degree to back me up).

Even better, I get to still be crafty and creative and involved in the papercrafting industry–an industry I adore. I’ve made so many incredible friends through crafting that I never would have met otherwise. And in the last week that I’ve been at the new job, a few really fantastic things have happened. I’m so excited for what the next few months are going to bring!

Anyway, after work one night this week, I made a layout. Just for fun. Just for me. And I wanted to share it. ‘Cause that’s what we crafters do. Hugs!

Delish! recipe: Patterned paper: Webster's Pages; Stamps: Lawn Fawn; Ink: Stampin' Up!; Stickers: Sassafras and Studio Calico; Journaling spot: Studio Calico; Tape: Vintage Street Market; Brads: BasicGrey; Jute: Papertrey Ink; Pen: Mitsubishi Pen Co.
