polka-dot paradise, oh yeah

Oh, how in love am I with the new Embellish online magazine? Even though the first issue hasn’t hit the Internet yet, the challenges have been superb! First, the challenge for the actual issue (kraft, red, blue, chocolate, and twine), and now this fun style challenge for the weekend: orange, light orange, burgundy, cream, and polka-dots. Difficult, but so rewarding. These challenges are similar to the style challenges that Cards magazine does in their monthly pubs calls, but while I haven’t been inspired by the ones that Cards has come up with, I’ve really enjoyed both of the ones that the Embellish team has posted so far. I think great things are in store here.

I wanted to try something totally different for this card, and whipped out Stampin’ Up!’s Extreme Elements set to create a splattered backdrop. I think it looks awesome with the very prim Bravo Burgundy polka-dots pattern (from the Parisian Summer collection, I believe). Of course, I totally inked up the polka-dots with some direct-to-paper to give it more of a grungy-vintage feel. Then I punched a quick scallop border to up the prim factor. Love, love the way grunge + preppy/prim look together!

On the home front, we’re making slow but steady progress. We were working on getting the baseboards finished now that the floor is in, but lost a few days due to rain. It looks incredible, and I have so many ideas for decorating for the holidays! Two years, man, two years without a Christmas tree. Oh, there’s going to be some holiday madness this year. {giggles}

Recipe: Stamps: Extreme Elements, Autumn 2009 tags; cardstock: very vanilla + pumpkin pie textured; patterned paper: bravo burgundy polka-dots from Parisian Summer collection; ink: bravo burgundy + crushed curry + marigold morning + pumpkin pie, tea dye; fibers: summer sunrise twill; tools: small corner rounder punch + scallop edge punch + 1-3/4" Circle punch + paper-piercing tool + mat pack + sponge daubers, staples

    Goodness! I love this! I had the HARDEST time making my card. I fussed with it for far longer than I care to admit! (I’ll post it tomorrow.) I wish I had seen your card first… it would have inspired me SOO much! I don’t know how you made it two years without a Christmas tree! I think I would die! 🙂 Hope you have a great week!
