vintage flowers a la dawn mcvey

Yesterday was Chris’ mom’s birthday, and we all went out for a big Italian meal last night at Michelangelo’s Ristorante on Highland Drive. Whoo hoo! My spaghetti vongole was amazing. And now I really ought to be heading to the gym instead of posting pictures of her birthday card. {self-deprecating chuckle}

Inspired by all of Leslie’s gorgeous roses in her front yard, I made this pretty birthday card, using Dawn’s simple technique for distressed flowers. It was raining too hard to get pictures of the roses, unfortunately. It’s been raining for the past week and it’s supposed to keep raining this week too. Now, I don’t mean our usual hour-long light rain. I’m talking full-fledged mid-western deluge here! Complete with thunder, lightning, and the occasional burst of hail. The sun is out right now, but one has to wonder for how long.

Not only should I be at the gym, I should be outside weeding and attempting to salvage the garden. Between the grasshoppers and the rain, it’s been a constant battle. And I was so hopeful when I planted it. For the most part, it still looks — sort of — okay.

Hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend!
